MARA Corporation and Batik Air forge Strategic Aviation Partnership to advance Malaysia’s MRO and Talent Ecosystem

KUALA LUMPUR, 3 May 2026 – MARA Corporation Sdn. Bhd. (MARA Corp) has formalised a strategic partnership with Malindo Airways Sdn. Bhd. (Batik Air) through a Letter of Intent (LOI), marking a key milestone in strengthening Malaysia’s aviation Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) capabilities and talent development pipeline. The exchange ceremony, held in conjunction with MARA’s 60th Anniversary Gala Dinner at World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur, was witnessed by Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Rural and Regional Development, YAB Dato' Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, alongside key leaders from MARA, Batik Air, and industry partners.

The LOI outlines plans to explore the restructuring of Asia Aerotechnic Sdn. Bhd. (AAT) and establish a long-term collaboration in aviation MRO, including Batik Air’s intention to develop base maintenance operations at Subang hangar facilities. This initiative aims to optimise existing infrastructure while enhancing operational capacity and positioning Malaysia as a competitive regional hub for MRO excellence.

The partnership also places strong emphasis on human capital development, with Batik Air committing to recruit up to 200 MRSM students into the CAAM Part 66 licensed aircraft engineer programme over four years. Supported by structured training at Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology (UniKL MIAT), financial sponsorship, and potential employment opportunities, the initiative strengthens the nation’s aviation talent ecosystem while reinforcing MARA Corp’s long-term aviation growth strategy.
