Incorporated in 2014 and officially launched in 2016, MARA Corporation Sdn Bhd or more known as MARA Corp was established as an impact economy investment holding company owned by Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) to centrally manage all MARA’s commercial entities.
MARA Corp strives to ensure that the conditions of establishment outlined by the Ministry of Finance are complied with. In 2020, the MARA Council approved the proposed MARA Corp Management Empowerment Plan, continuing the process of transferring the shares of the companies in the existing agreement between MARA and MARA Corp and amended the amended share transfer instrument from Redeemable Cumulative Preference Share to ordinary shareholding in consideration for the transfer of company shares.
MARA Corp aims to be a global leader in key sectors that shape Malaysian industries and socio-economic development by creating and developing investments in key sectors that would deliver scalable and sustainable financial returns that would shape industries and socio-economic development for Bumiputeras especially in the rural areas. MARA subsidiaries have been an instrumental in the development of the Bumiputera professional and industrial community since the launch of the New Economic Policy in 1970.
The formation of MARA Corp was timely in response to the global financial crisis and the need to maintain and improve corporate governance and inter alia through incorporation of the Ministry of Finance standards.
As an investment holding entity, MARA Corp is also envisaged to generate more returns for MARA and to curb unnecessary business risk for the governmental body. The practice of good corporate governance and high professionalism to mitigate graft and incompetency practices within the subsidiaries remains top priority in MARA Corp.
Currently, there are twelves subsidiaries under MARA Corp of which includes Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), MARA Incorporated Sdn Bhd, Pelaburan MARA Berhad (PMB), Glocal Link (M) Sdn Bhd, Rural Capital Berhad, Harta Prima Realties Sdn Bhd, MARA Excellent Ventures Sdn Bhd, Asia AeroTechnic Sdn Bhd, MARA Liner Sdn Bhd, MARA Aerospace and Technologies Sdn Bhd (MARA Aerotech), UNIMARA Sdn Bhd and Kolej Poly-Tech MARA Sdn Bhd.
With the consolidation of these subsidiaries, from aerospace services provider to the more traditional transportation business player like MARA Liner, financial services and trust like PMB, traditional education institutions, as well as the property player of MARA Inc, MARA Corp has what it takes towards creating a complete ecosystem with its subsidiaries to push for economic development for the nation in terms of uplifting the wellbeing of the Malays and Bumiputeras community, as what it has been entrusted and mandated to do.
